Cooking in the City at Pretend City

Pretend City is hosting a Cooking in the City class on Thursday, August 10th. The theme for this cooking class is French. The art studio will be open all day with two exploration stations; pasta necklaces and bean mandalas; and one sensory station; corn meal. There will be two sessions of the cooking class, one at 11am and again at 2:30pm.  The class will teach participants to make French macarons. CS Lewis: Further Up and Further In

The Irvine Barclay Theatre is hosting presentations of C.S. Lewis: Further Up and Further In. The play will be performed on July 19th through July 22nd. Actor Max McLean will take you on a journey through the life of the greatest authors, C.S. Lewis. He will explore questions of faith, prayers, how Hitler influenced the writings of The Screwtape Letters among other topics. World Ocean’s Weekend

Pretend Children’s Museum is celebrating World Ocean’s Weekend on Saturday, June 10th. Start by visiting the Mobile Touch Tank, from Concordia University with a variety of sea creatures for hands on learning. University staff and students will interact with museum guests about respecting our oceans and the creatures that call them home. At 2:30pm, there will be story time with the book All the Water in the World by George Ella Lyon. Throughout the week, art and craft projects will be available to children, all with the theme of the world’s oceans. The celebration will begin at 10am and continue to 2:30pm. 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s First Folio

The University of California, Irvine Campus libraries is celebrating the 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s First Folio. This exhibit incorporates four centuries of rare books and artwork. The exhibit covers Shakespeare’s rise in both England and around the globe. Following the presentation will be a discussion with exhibit curator Derek Quezada, Rare Books Librarian at USC and Eric Rasmussen, Regents Teaching Professor and Foundation of English at the University of Nevada. This will be followed by a short performance from MacBeth. After the program, attendees are invited to Langson Library for a reception and exhibit viewing.  The event has free admission. Kaleo Phillips at Irvine Barclay Theater

On Friday, April 14th, Hawaiian musician, Kaleo Phillips is performing at the Irvine Barclay Theater. Kaleo Phillips combines his versatile guitar skills and voice to perform a large array of styles from ballads to island reggae to traditional Hawaiian. Phillips was born and raised in Lahaina on Maui. He has toured throughout Hawaii, mainland US, and Japan. His debut album, E Mama, was awarded with the Na Hoku Hanohano award nominations and his second album, Take Me Home, was nominated for the 2020 Contemporary Acoustic Album of the Year. Sleep Canyon Rangers at The Irvine Barclay Theater

Sleep Canyon Rangers will be performing at The Irvine Barclay Theater on Thursday, March 30th.  Sleep Canyon Rangers are bluegrass masters. Playing together since they were students together at the University of North Carolina. They are known for “bending and shaping the bluegrass aesthetic, combining elements of pop, country, and folk rock.” This Grammy winning band is always moving bluegrass forward. Romeo et Juliette performed by Lyric Opera of Orange County

The Lyric Opera of Orange County is performing Romeo et Juliette. On Friday, March 3rd, The Lyric Opera OC are making their Irvine Barclay Theatre debut. Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers are given a Hollywood makeover. This performance will be sung in French with English supertitles. This is a two-hour abridged production of Charles Gounod’s opera. Chinese American Spring Festival Gala

Irvine Barclay Theater is hosting the Chinese American Spring Festival Gala on Saturday, January 28th at 7pm. Spring Festival, commonly known as, Lunar New Year is the celebration of moving from zodiac sign to the next. This will be the Year of the Rabbit, the rabbit is the symbol of peace, prosperity, and longevity.
