About Shady Canyon

Shady Canyon is part of the Turtle Rock section of Irvine, California. This community is bordered by Quail Hill, James Irvine Retreat and Bommer Canyon. Shady Canyon is 800 acres in size and is surrounded by 16,000 acres of natural sanctuary. The 800 acres of Shady Canyon is made-up of 300 acres of golf club and 500 acres of residential development, dedicated open space and trails. Shady Canyon is a guard gated community with 400 residences spread over three unique neighborhoods. Shady Canyon is known for its generous sized lots. There are many types of architectural styles in Shady Canyon including Mediterranean, Tuscan and French Provencal. Among the many resort style amenities offered by the homeowners’ association are a Junior Olympic size pool, spa, clubhouse, tot lot, outdoor recreational areas and tennis courts. There are extensive trails that run throughout this area for hiking, biking and walking.

While the city of Irvine has approximately 200,000 residents, Shady Canyon has just 1,000 residents spread over the three neighborhoods. Collectively, the three developments have 400 single family homes.

Shady Canyon is home to the private Shady Canyon Golf Club. The 18 hole course, which winds through canyons, bends and hills was designed by Tom Fazio. Shady Canyon residents have exclusive private access to the golf club. In addition, there are many golf clubs in the area including Strawberry Fields Golf Course, Oak Creek Golf Club and Pelican Hill Golf Course.

Students attend schools in the award winning Irvine Unified School District. Students living in the Shady Canyon development specifically attend Bonita Canyon Elementary School, Rancho San Joaquin Middle School and University High School. Also, located nearby are the University of California, Irvine, Concordia University and Irvine Valley College. In addition, there are many private schools in the area including LaPort School Irvine Spectrum, Crean Lutheran High School, St. Michael – The Archangel Academy, Lourus Academy and Halstrom Academy – Newport Beach.

Residents are in close proximity to the 405 Freeway and the 73 Toll Road. Shady Canyon is near the border of Irvine and Newport Coast in Newport Beach. Newport Coast is home to both the Crystal Cove State Park and Pelican Hill Resort, Spa and Golf Course. Crystal Cove State Park has 3.2 miles of sandy beaches.
