Potential buyers should become pre-approved for a mortgage rather than being pre-qualified. Pro-approval is a step further along the process and will be more advantageous to you when you making an offer on a home. Buyers will take your offer more seriously and in a bidding war, this will make your offer stronger. Also, pre-approval will give an exact amount you will be able to receive a loan for, so that you can look at homes that exactly match your price range.
